Jude Law, David Slade May Confront Dracula
Doomed Russian ship sets sail in 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter'
Jude Law and director David Slade are in talks to board "The Last Voyage of the Demeter."
Chronicling a doomed Russian ship that appeared in Bram Stoker's classic 1897 tale "Dracula," the film could set sail with vampire directing veteran Slade, who helmed "30 Days of Night" and "Eclipse."
Although Law ("Sherlock Holmes," "Enemy at the Gates") is expected to land a key role if he joins the project, there is no indication if he will portray Dracula or another lead character.
In the novel "Dracula," the Demeter washes up on the shore of Whitby, England, during a fierce storm after transporting Dracula from Transylvania. Only one crew member survives, but he collapses into insanity.
The ship's voyage will take center stage in the film, with the crew locked in a desperate struggle to survive as their mysterious passenger hunts them.
Noomi Rapace ("The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") will star alongside actor Ben Kingsley ("Shutter Island"). She will play a stowaway on the ship.
"The Last Voyage of the Demeter" was penned by Bragi Schut, the writer behind "Threshold" and the Nicolas Cage medieval horror movie "Season of the Witch."
Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer and Bradley Fischer of "Shutter Island" fame will produce the film for Phoenix Pictures.
Previously, Oscar-winning director Stefan Ruzowitzky ("The Counterfeiters") was attached to the project.
