This review may contain spoilers

Still missing of the six are Faye's (Phoebe Tonkin) family crystal, the one her mother (Natasha Henstridge) drained, and Adam's (Thomas Dekker). Since John (Joe Lando) told the witch community that witch hunters killed Jane, and Charles (Gale Harold) can't contradict him without revealing his own guilt in the matter, Cassie (Britt Robertson) is more keen than ever to destroy the witch hunters.

Ever responsible Adam and Melissa (Jessica Parker Kennedy) go looking for where grandad hid Adam's crystal. Faye and Jake (Charles Zylka) just happen upon hers when, at the wake, Faye steals a pill bottle from her mother's purse, believing the drugs can be used recreationally. Opening the bottle later reveals the drained crystal.

Meanwhile, Diana (Shelley Hennig) is dealing with the revelations about her paternity.Confronting her father, Charles, reveals that there was opportunity when he separated from her mother, Elizabeth, for a few weeks at the right time. Charles reaffirms his love and bond with Diana, declaring himself her true father. He tells her to stay away from John, which she does her best to do -- avoiding his assistance and trying not to keep him informed.

Charles, himself, makes a few clever moves. He confronts John publicly, starting a fist fight at Cassie's cafe; so if something happens to him, many people will testify that John had major motive. Then, he prepares to move away, taking Diana away from John's influence.

John, who as it turns out didn't father a child on Dawn for lack of trying, tasks her with ensuring that Charles stays. He intends to use the children to destroy the witch hunters and then the elders. The same plan as 16 years ago, but with the kids' circle providing the magical muscle instead of Dawn's unbound circle. The last part of the plan, as far as Dawn is concerned, whether John agrees with it to be revealed later, is to tell the world about witches so they need never hide again. Adding the cherry on top, of course, he promises to give her powers back sometime in the unspecified future.

Jake called Isaac, who has always thought magic was an abomination and surely disapproves of Eben selling his soul to demons, hoping to flank Eben with Isaac and his allies. Instead, Ian (Richard Harmon), who was part of the kidnapping team in "Masked," shows up because Isaac is dead. Eben killed Isaac when he failed to dispose of the traitor witch after Eben declared him redundant. Later, Ian and two other witch hunters are found dead, killed by the traitor witch who turns out to be the surprisingly mobile Nick (Louis Hunter). Not so dead, after all.

Points Of Interest

1. What Adam thought were sleight of hand tricks that his grandfather performed for his amusement, turn out to be a cloaking spell. The uncloaking spell is engraved on his lucky coin.

2. Although he tells Cassie to think nothing of it, Adam is unsettled and confused by her kiss when he is comforting her over her grandmother's death.

3. John shows the kids how to cast a spell, with the four crystals they have, to locate the rest. Adam's grandfather cloaks his from the location spell, but removing the cloak reveals it to be hidden at the high school where Grandad taught history.

4. Jake and Faye get together for yet another one-time-only hookup.

5. Faye is coulrophobic (afraid of clowns).

What Worked

While he handles it poorly when first confronted by Diana's questions about her parentage, and he really does not appear surprised at all by the idea that John fathered Diana, Charles soon pulls himself together and works to protect his daughter to the best of his ability.

Ironically, while trying to trick Charles into staying, Dawn uses an argument that is surprisingly truthful. Dawn and Charles are responsible for bringing Cassie here (by killing Amelia, but she leaves that part out) to complete the circle so that they could use the kids to get their own powers back. Now John is using the kids. Faye stole Dawn's crystal to give to John. Even if Diana moves away she is still bound to the circle. Tom, Dawn's husband, and Elizabeth, Charles' wife, are dead because of John and if he is not stopped, Faye and Diana could end up dead at his hand as well.

Telling the witch community that witch hunters killed Jane was a clever story. One wonders what they told her muggle/health care coworkers about her burned out eyes and such.

What Didn't Work

Speaking of Jane, if she had a body after the cruet, then what about Calvin's mortal remains?

Sure, they're supposed to be teenagers, but they're also supposed to believe that the enemy has struck very closely and is about to attack again. So getting drunk while looking for Adam's crystal is a good idea? Especially considering Adam's perspective on his father and drink?

Diana and Cassie searching the shuttered amusement park are such pathetic examples of girlhood it makes me sad. All the screeching and carrying on over a little spookiness, and a rat, was entirely unnecessary.
