'Suspiria' Remake Signs Cast

'The Pineapple Express' director David Gordon takes the reins with Isabelle Fuhrman playing Suzy Banyon

"The Hunger Games" actress Isabelle Fuhrman will take the lead role of Suzy Banyon in Crime Scene Pictures' remake of Dario Argento's 1977 cult hit "Suspiria."

David Gordon Green ("The Pineapple Express") is set to direct the witch tale, which he co-wrote with Chris Gebert. It begins production in September for a 2013 release.

In addition to Fuhrman, who played the sinister Esther in the 2009 film "Orphan," the remake also stars Isabelle Hubbert ("The Piano Teacher"), Janet McTeer ("The Woman in Black"), Antje Traue ("Pandorum") and Michael Nyqvist ("Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol").

Italian director Luca Guadagnino ("The Protagonists") will produce the film under the First Sun production banner along with Francesco Melzi d’Eril ("Hotel Rwanda") from Memo Films and Crime Scene Pictures' Adam Ripp and Rob Paris.

Green has previously promised to deliver a faithful adaption, featuring music based on Goblin's haunting score from the original film.

“We love the style and energy of the original film -- and David’s script brilliantly updates the world, presenting a rare opportunity to create an elegant, classic horror film,” Ripp and Paris said in a statement.

In Argento's film, Jessica Harper ("Phantom Of The Paradise," "Safe") played Banyon, an American dance student enrolled at the Tanz Akademie in Freiburg, Germany. Unfortunately for Suzy, the school was simply a front that masked the activities of Mater Suspiriorum, a powerful witch.

Executive producers for the remake are Silvia Fendi, Rizal Risjad and Philip Elway; Lisa Muskat will co-produce.
