'Carrie' Remake Adds To Cast

Stephen King tale signs aboard actresses Portia Doubleday, Judy Greer

Portia Doubleday and Judy Greer are joining the cast of MGM and Screen Gems' remake of Stephen King's "Carrie," according to Deadline.

Hitting theaters March 15, 2013, the remake features "Let Me In" actress Chloe Moretz in the lead role of telekinetic teenager Carrie White, who was played by Sissy Spacek in Brian De Palma's 1976 film "Carrie."

Doubleday ("Mr. Sunshine," "Youth in Revolt") will play Chris Hargensen, whose cruel acts prompt Carrie’s telekinetic attack during the school's prom, and Greer ("Two and a Half Men," "The Village") will play the gym teacher Miss Desjardin.

Also cast is Julianne Moore as Carrie's religious mother and Gabriella Wilde as Sue Snell.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark") is penning the adaption with director Kimberly Peirce ("Stop-Loss," "Boys Don’t Cry") at the helm.

In 1976, De Palma's ("Scarface," "Dressed to Kill") film adaption was nominated for several Academy Awards, including nods to Spacek and Piper Laurie for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. John Travolta and Amy Irving also starred

The story centers on a shy teenager who is cruelly taunted by her classmates and who decides to unleash her deadly powers during the school's prom.

A 1988 Broadway musical, a 1999 feature film sequel and a 2002 television movie followed.

Moretz currently appears in Tim Burton film "Dark Shadows," which stars Johnny Depp.

"Carrie" was King's first published novel.
