'American Horror Story' Receives Name Change

Acclaimed FX series adds 'Asylum' to its title for Season 2

FX's "American Horror Story" will return next season with a new name, according to creator Ryan Murphy.

Now titled "American Horror Story: Asylum," the show's new season is set at an East Coast insane asylum during 1964. Season 2 features Jessica Lange and other cast members from Season 1 returning for new roles.

“We picked ‘Asylum’ because it not only describes the setting -- an insane asylum run by Jessica Lange’s character which was formerly a tuberculosis ward -- but also signifies a place of haven for the unloved and the unwanted," Murphy said. "This year’s theme is about sanity and tackling real life horrors.”

"American Horror Story" -- from "Glee" co-creators Murphy and Brad Falchuk -- recently scored 17 nominations for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards. The nods included Outstanding Miniseries, Lead Actress for Connie Britton, Supporting Actress for both Lange and Frances Conroy and Supporting Actor for Denis O'Hare.

In technical categories, the series scored nods for Art Direction in two separate episodes, Main Title Design, Costumes, Casting, Editing, Stunt Coordination, Hairstyling, Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

Lange, who earned a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award as Constance last season, was also recently nominated during the 2012 Airlock Alpha Portal Awards for Best Supporting Actress/Television.

Joining Lange from Season 1 for a sophomore return are Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe and Evan Peters.

Other new cast members include Jenna Dewan ("Tamara"), Adam Levine (of Maroon 5), Clea Duvall ("Heroes"), James Cromwell ("L.A. Confidential"), Chris Zylka ("The Secret Circle"), Joseph Fiennes ("FlashForward"), Chloe Sevigny ("Big Love"), Lizzie Brochere and Mark Consuelos.

Production on Season 2 kicked off in July for a mid-October premiere.
