Fox is seeking a sequel to Ridley Scott's ambitious sci-fi feature "Prometheus."

Detailing events prior to 1979's "Alien," "Prometheus" -- budgeted at $130 million -- earned a solid $303 million at the global box office.

As Scott and the studio push forward with establishing the prequel franchise, they are looking to replace "Prometheus" co-writer Damon Lindelof ("Lost"), who reportedly has a scheduling conflict.

"Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right," said Emma Watts, Fox president of production. "We can't rush it."

The sequel would receive a 2014 or 2015 release.

"Prometheus" followed a team of scientist's ambitious journey into space in search of alien life and the creators of mankind.

In addition to directing the film, Scott produced it along with Walter Hill ("Alien"), Tony Scott ("Top Gun") and David Giler. Lindelof scripted "Prometheus" based on an idea from Scott and an initial draft by Jon Spaihts.

The film starred Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green.

Fassbender, who played the android David, and Rapace, who played scientist Elizabeth Shaw, are signed to return.
