'Hannibal' Signs Caroline Dharvernas

'Wonderfalls' actress reunites with writer Bryan Fuller on NBC's upcoming drama

Caroline Dharvernas has signed aboard NBC’s new serial killer drama "Hannibal" from "Pushing Daises" writer Bryan Fuller.

Having previously worked with Fuller on "Wonderfalls," Dharvernas will play a consultant with the FBI's division that profiles serial murderers.

"Hannibal," based on bestselling novels from Thomas Harris, is expected to premiere midseason with 13 episodes, which will mine background elements from his book "Red Dragon."

Written by Fuller, the series centers on the infamous cannibal Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), who works with FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) to solve crimes. However, unlike "Silence of the Lambs," the series begins by exploring Lecter's time before he exposed his true nature.

David Slade is directing the first episode; he has helmed features such as "30 Days of Night" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and has directed television episodes from NBC's drama "Awake" and AMC's "Breaking Bad."

In addition to Dharvernas, Laurence Fishburne ("The Matrix") also recently joined the cast; he will play Jack Crawford, a FBI behavioral sciences unit leader.

Fuller is also producing the series along with Martha DeLaurentiis, Sara Colleton, Jesse Alexander and Katie O'Connell.
