'Supernatural,' 'True Blood' Earn Nominations

Make your vote count during Airlock Alpha's 2009 Portal Awards

"Supernatural" and "True Blood" received nominations during Airlock Alpha's 2009 Portal Awards, which covers the world of genre entertainment.

But it was the final season of "Battlestar Galactica" that resonated well with the nomination committee behind the Portal Awards, and the now legendary SciFi Channel series leads the way with 11 nominations including the usual suspects at Best Actor/Television and Best Actress/Television (that is Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell) and Best Series/Television.

Fox's "Dollhouse" didn't do too badly itself. The Joss Whedon series picked up five nominations on its first time out including Best Actress/Television for Eliza Dushku and Best Series/Television.

"Doctor Who" was close behind with four nominations including nods to David Tennant and Catherine Tate for Best Actor/Television and Best Actress/Television, but surprisingly, the show isn't up for Best Series/Television this year, the first time it has not made the final cut.

The 2009 Portal Awards International Nominating Committee spent months discussing and debating hundreds of possible nominees to get to the final list, and there were a lot of tough decisions across the board. "Doctor Who" may not be up for Best Series, but the list includes the aforementioned "Battlestar Galactica," "Dollhouse," "Fringe" on Fox, "Lost" on ABC, and last year's winner, "Supernatural" on The CW.

Competing for Best Actor in television along with Olmos and Tennant are Jensen Ackles from "Supernatural," Joshua Jackson from "Fringe" and Jason O'Mara from "Life on Mars."

Dushku, McDonnell and Tate are competing against Gretchen Mol from "Life on Mars" and Anna Paquin from "True Blood" in the Best Actress category.

As always, the categories with the most debate, and closest vote, were in the Best Guest Star/Television and Best Episode/Television categories.

Whoopi Goldberg gets her first Portal Awards nomination ever with her work on the "Life on Mars" episode "Wild in the Streets." She will compete against Richard Hatch from the "Battlestar Galactica" episode "Blood on the Scales," Billie Piper form the "Doctor Who" episode "Stolen Earth," Alan Tudyk from the "Dollhouse" episode "Omega," and Kate Vernon from the "Battlestar Galactica" episode "No Exit."

Competing for Best Episode are "Daybreak, Part 2" from "Battlestar Galactica," "The Monster at the End of this Book" from "Supernatural," "The Oath" from "Battlestar Galactica," "Omega" from "Dollhouse" and "Turn Left" from "Doctor Who."

In the movie category, "Star Trek" was the leader with five nominations, including Best Movie, while "Dark Knight" wasn't too far behind with four, including one for the late Heath Ledger.
